The short answer is, if you’re not using water to regulate your weight and blood pressure, then it’s not very good for you. Water fasting does not help with maintaining water retention due to the depletion of potassium in the body.

Water fasting is beneficial to the cardiovascular system and the metabolism due to the increased activity in the muscle that would be generated after a period of time without drinking, and also due to the fact that the lack of water intake from water fasting will lead to the release of some of the excess body fat. And by the way, the increased activity in the muscles (called sympathetic nervous system activity) leads to increased metabolic rate, and therefore the muscle contraction due to increased water consumption.

So this is a very good way to lose fat, but the water fasting is only supposed to be done for 6-8 days. It’s so easy to do a water fast without even making a plan, and when that happens to become long, it is actually counterproductive to lose weight as you would need to take 2-3 days off (assuming you do a complete water fast). So, don’t worry, you don’t need a water fast if your body is eating just right and you take all your regular intake.

Water will be taken after waking up at day’s end (you get no water with a 24-hour fast).
