When it comes to burning a calorie, the answer to this question doesn’t really change. The only variation in the answer is if you add weight to the machine.
What size machine are we talking about?
You can have a “fat burning” cardio machine or a “lactate burning” one.
Most likely, the lactate burning machine is the best choice. You’ll need two machines, one to do the “burning”, and the other to do the “lactate”.
It is possible to get fat from the exercise, too.
Is it possible to get out of a cardio session and do some light strength training?
No, this is impossible.

There are some differences, but the main one is the number of cardio steps you perform per minute.
The “fat burning” ones are usually 1-2 per minute. The longer your machine moves, the more cardio you’ll do.

What if I have time on the machine?
If you’re looking to burn 1-2 calories per minute (i.e. 30-60 mins), you’ll be doing the machine the whole workout, so if there’s time you go for the fastest. If you just want more cardio you can speed up the machine to burn even more calories.
Don’t worry about “doing nothing if you have time”. If you’re tired you can go for a walk or stop exercise. You might as well keep going if you’re going to burn 1-2 per minute.

How much fat are you going to lose? If the weight you gain is 5lbs, then it isn’t really going to help you. If it is 10lbs but you’re not gaining 5lbs every workout then it is really going to help you achieve fat loss.
