(WXYZ) – In a shocking twist of fate, the victim of a shooting in Detroit has died in New York City.
“I’m going to tell you something, we’ve had a lot of bad news lately in Detroit,” said Detroit Police Chief James Craig. “…It has been really sad and shocking. We had a very good relationship with the FBI and they said as soon as they had all the facts, would be sending an agent over. He called to me earlier today and said that we had a very good chance of it being the same person. We have no idea.”
The victim, a man in his middle-age, was visiting New York from Detroit.
Officials say the man was shot by the suspect in a separate situation earlier in the day.
“The first time, he was walking down West Grand Boulevard and a white man walked up and had a loaded gun, shot him, and then ran down the street,” said Craig. “And then they gave up, and the victim said he was fine, so he had the gun taken from him, and now he is gone.”
Police said the man was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital and is expected to survive.
The man is a known acquaintance of the victim who police say was with him when the shootings happened.
“We really appreciate the support we’ve had in the community and especially our local law enforcement that were out there on the scene, as well,” said Craig. ”
