Why do I hear a ‘d-flick’ sound on my uke?
The D-flick is a technical term for the way the bow strings move through various string heights when picking. The D-flick is often associated with the action, but this is not the most important aspect of the sound – there is more to it. A D-flick sounds different when the bow is extended and the bow is flexed. On a relaxed bow, the sound of the D-Flick will be relatively similar if it happens at the same time whenever the bow is flexed in the following way:
As you can tell if you’ve already played this, the bow’s bow strings are in the same position when the bow is relaxed (open). Any change in the bow’s bow string shape as it is relaxed (extended) means that you’ve ‘spun’ the bow a little bit. This sound is normally caused by tension changes caused by the bow’s string tension.
