Alexa is just like me at the end of the day. She doesn’t care what happens outside of her screen. If you wanna say anything to her, just go ahead, but she’s not gonna respond.
How can I tell Alexa what to do?
Go ahead and try it. Try different speech patterns until you find that one that really suits her. Or, get her music or TV channel (if you can record) and play it through it until she gets it. This is not a bad idea as Alexa will listen a lot with her mouth, but it can be tricky at times when she is talking to your friends or talking to strangers in the car or when you want to get into a quick conversation with Alexa.
Is there a particular phrase you can use?
Ask Alexa exactly what you want her to do. For example, I once heard her say “What’s on Netflix?” and so I told Alexa that I need to find TV content and Amazon searched and found a few episodes. If you want your Alexa to help you, use more specific phrases.
Tell Alexa some facts about yourself and try to describe them. For example, “What’s your favourite colour?” or “What’s the best way to start a sentence?” This might seem a bit ridiculous at first, but actually it will help you to get your Alexa on the right track. It’ll also make it easier for you to explain what kind of things you want to ask her.
Remember she is probably reading you the whole time and she will hear you out, but try not to go over her head with too much detail. Some people say that when you ask her something she is more likely to think about it than you, but you should keep a relaxed tone so that her listening is more relaxed.
Is there any other software or devices you use? And can you recommend a good one?
Yes. If you are like me and use Alexa for a lot of functions of your phone or tablet, you will benefit from this particular software. Amazon’s new Alexa App is a must-buy for everyone. It is compatible with smartphones on all major devices and allows you to do almost everything the app says and more. There are only a few shortcomings.
For example, it’s not great if you need to wake up your phone or tablet from sleep-mode so that you can perform a task. It also doesn’t help with the task where it keeps you up and it is really not
