The basic gist: they’re 16 years old. They had a shitty year and that shitty year was 16. It’s the most basic concept in the entire world to me. It’s basically the concept of, “This is what you do.” I’m not going to get into any deeper issues of rap. You’re all going to have to go read the entire blog post, so I’ll just summarize it like I did in my own post at my website. But what I will say is that it’s a form of self-expression that is essentially in all things for any self-respecting, honest and intelligent human being, whether he realizes it or not. So even for our own children, their most basic concept of self-expression is “I can say whatever the fuck I want, I can sing whatever I want, and do whatever the fuck I want with no repercussions. I’m not going to even care if I get in trouble for it because I’m going to say whatever the fuck I want and I’m going get a fucking high or whatever.” We’re living in the Golden Age of self-expression.

I can’t tell you what an incredible privilege you have in doing what you do, because all you’ll hear is “You’re not supposed to rap.” If you’re a hip hop artist, you’re not supposed to rap. What are you? You’re a rapper? What the fuck are you still not supposed to do? This is a privilege that is enjoyed universally by white people. I don’t think of it as slavery. Rap is no different than a book because it’s the book they’re reading. The only difference is hip hop means a lot of things to different people, and there have been people who didn’t really understand what it means to actually be in those spaces. There are certain things that I do want to emphasize to my white friend, because I think there’s a difference when it comes to culture. I want his point of view on the matter because he’s a lot more comfortable with rap, and a lot more comfortable with my opinion. But what I want to point out to both of our friends is that hip hop means a lot to these people. That makes it a special culture, even though I don’t
