from a bank, brokerage firm, business, mortgage trust, or trust company $4,000 from home equity loan

from home equity loan up to $7,000 can obtain grants from nonprofit organizations

can obtain grants from nonprofit organizations any grant may be in excess of what the household must pay to heat an average single-family home, as listed in the HUD definition

Can you apply for one grant or multiple grants or receive multiple grants? If you make more than $7,000 each year, you can apply for grants from more than one federal agency. You can also apply for funding from a State Housing Finance Agency.

What does the application process entail? How can I receive information about which grants are available?

As part of your application, you must provide the information that HUD requires. Some of it depends on how much money you have earned. Once you submit your application, an HHS/HUD/EC-Council representative will review your application, determine your income level, and send you an evaluation report. Once the information is received, you’ll have 5 calendar days after the receipt of the report to notify HUD/HUD/EC-Council of any changes you make to your financial situation. If you have a change of address or a change in your employment, you’ll have a longer time frame. You’ll have 5 days from receipt of the evaluation report to notify HUD/HUD/EC-Council if you change your name or any other data that HUD uses to determine eligibility as provided in the grant grant criteria. During this time, you’ll have to contact HUD/HUD/EC-Council to schedule hearings. If HUD/HUD/EC-Council determines that you’re eligible for a grant, they will notify you at that time. What if I qualify for a less-than-low-cost grant? If you make less than $5,960 a year but earn at least $5,960 or more, you qualify for a less-than-low-cost grant based on the income level in the household (for example, for a family of four who make $30,000 a year, the HUD/HUD/EC-Council will determine it’s less-than-low-cost grant to be $1,000).
