To be an early-stage investor, you need to do more than read about angels, fund startups, start-ups, or venture capitalists. You need to do business and market research to put together portfolio portfolios based on your investment goals. You also need to do some homework to learn about startups and how they are raising capital. You’re going to have to invest through various channels — venture capital, angel investing, angel-backed start-ups — and you’re going to have to sell or acquire each time. You’re going to have to spend money on marketing and PR.
To become an angel investor you need money, contacts, experience, and connections. You also need to work at least 10 hours a week for three months on behalf of the company, working on its product, and/or raising business and/or financing through capital raising or angel investing.
