And will there ever be a better way to learn it? We’re talking about learning how to learn, here – learning a way that gives you full control over your own learning, without having to buy a big expensive course or sign up for seminars.
When you begin learning how to play a new instrument, you’ll face the daunting task of figuring out exactly what kind of skills you’ll need to get you there. You may need to practice, practice a lot, or play on a lot of different instruments. If any of those things interest you, then consider learning guitar or ukulele. As long as you can learn some basic guitar and ukulele chords, you’ll have a good foundation on which to build your skill. And even if you have trouble playing one or two chords in your first few lessons, try putting in the time over time to practice what you can. It’s a good idea to keep your playing practice routine as simple as possible so that you don’t lose the habit of playing on a regular basis over time. As long as you start with these basics, you’ll be fine once you begin learning more advanced chords and playing on all kinds of instruments.
One advantage of learning a different instrument than what you’re used to, is the ability to practice it on a regular basis. There’s no need to plan things out in advance every time you’re supposed to practice on an instrument. As long as you have time for one practice session when you’re not on vacation, there is no need to worry about getting too far ahead. You’ll learn how to play the instrument with ease and in a consistent way, and eventually your brain will be less inclined to go into overdrive whenever you take on more difficulty than you thought possible.
You’ve heard of other learning things like piano, Spanish, dancing (aka kata) and so on – how about making an art form out of learning something you don’t know how to play?
