You can apply for grants for individual projects you are working on, for example, a web site or a new app you would like to build, or an open data initiative you want to run.
You can also apply for grants for projects that you believe are important and worthy of funding. If you are thinking of taking a big leap and building your own product or website, or a different type of app you are working on, you could apply to a grant for the work. You could also apply for an open data grant, if it is about creating an open data set to keep track of your data.
How should applicants find out more about the schemes?
Go to https://grants.gov.au/ or follow @grantsgovau for updates.
Can I apply for grants if I am not a Australian citizen or permanent resident?
If you aren’t eligible, you can apply for grants via the Australian Government’s website or by phone.
If you are eligible to apply for an Australia-wide grant (for example, if you are a non-Citizens and you live outside Australia), you can apply for a National Grant through the Australian Government.
There’s a fee for this service, usually US$300, but it can take 10 days but in some cases it’s quicker.
This service allows applicants to apply for grants by phone, online or in-person.
How do I become eligible?
You can apply for grants from the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS)’s Australia’s Future Grants portal.
DIIS can only provide grants for Australian government projects, and for all types of projects which involve Australia in a global area.
