What color were flapper dresses? – Flapper Dress With Sleeves

That’s a great question, but I didn’t have an answer. (Oh! My sister is a flapper. I remember her once telling me that every time she danced she painted her arms.) But I knew that a flapper dress was pretty. My mom could go to a shop and buy one for me. I wouldn’t have to make it myself. In my mind, I knew I could buy one in pink.

As the years went by, I realized that this wasn’t the whole story. I didn’t have much in the way of family memories for the past three decades, so I had a lot of spare time. I took that time to sit down and draw everything I could remember.

The first thing I tried was the original, yellow flapper dress, a color I can’t quite recall. I was a little overwhelmed when I saw it (it was so yellow that it looked like it could’ve been blue, so I was excited to test it), but somehow it stuck.

Then I started thinking about the various colors of the flapper that came after. The white was a color that hadn’t been used extensively in the 1940s (it was just a white and blue dress, and I thought I’d see why), but I thought that I’d find some red dresses I’d also recall from back then. I ended up with a red flapper dress, and it was one of my favorites. Maybe one day I’ll post it again. (There’s a red flapper dress in my closet, but it’s a very simple dress. I’d wear it again, but it’s nothing special.)

The last thing I tried was a gray flapper dress. This one was made with white flannel and red velvet in the back, and a red and purple hem, which came out a bit dark. The color didn’t really work with all the other colors, though. I kept trying on dresses, but the thing is, the colors don’t really work together. I wanted something that would be pretty for me, and would fit well with the rest of my clothes.

I’m not sure what was going on in my brain during those two weeks of drawing and making dresses. I kept telling myself that it would be okay. I would work on the dresses later.

Then a funny thing happened.

After those two weeks of making dresses, I started making shirts too. There was some thought I had to do with them, but I didn’t really want
