Here are a few of the more popular items that have been around for over a century. The list is not exhaustive, but provides a great starting point. And please feel free to add more and ask questions in the comments below!
Shelves and storage units
The modern home is often made of wood, and is divided into two main types: living and non-living. In the living section, you’ll find shelves for your home’s possessions: your books, toys, clothes, and home goods to name a few. In the non-living section, you’ll find space for a number of items, including your most important possessions, like your car, home equipment, and pets. This is a great place to include extra space for the occasional purchase, and can be very useful in an emergency. Here are a few examples of non-living storage units:
Non-drying racks
Non-drying racks have been around for decades. Although some are still available on the internet, most are too heavy for the typical home garage. As I always say, it doesn’t make much sense to have a large amount of stuff sitting all over your garage when it will soon be all torn up. Instead, use non-drying racks with low shelves. These units are typically designed for car racks, and are made by companies like Lowe’s and Best Buy. One trick I use with these units is to leave the bottom edge open, allowing you to stack the rack on top of each other.

Cedar and wire
These are a couple of different wood options for building a non-drying space for your furniture. They’re typically designed to sit over a wood stud, giving you plenty of vertical space to stack things, but have the added benefit of offering a lot of protection from the weather when they’re opened.
Some great options include the wood from Kite Hill’s Wood and Metal Shelving. This is also a pretty awesome product, if only for its looks (and price).
Hanging racks
For hanging, wire is your best choice. Most hanging racks are sold by their hook style, which is what people use to hang your most valuable possessions, like jewelry and furniture. They look very cool, but can be a bit challenging to stack if you don’t have the right tools. Thankfully,
