Today’s post is a bit different. This is a post about how you can make a rustic design for your home or business that is both interesting and functional.

We are going to begin at the top. We are going to start small, with a simple, rustic design. What will this look like?
We start with 2 boards. One is wood and the other is brass. We will do the first part with the brass board first.
First we will drill 8 small holes in the center of both boards. One for each side of the board.
Next we will make a cross at the bottom of each of the 12 holes for the brass board to sit. Then we will go over the top, making sure to keep holes for each side of the board.
Finally, we will have a cross above each hole we drilled.
We need a top for the board. The first one we made was with a decorative handle that was very easy. It is easier to do things with decorative handles. We chose the handle for our board because it looks nice but it is not necessary. We used a large wooden piece that I found at a dollar store.
Next we are going to make a handle that is a little more interesting. We cut the wood handle to 3/4″ in width. Since some pieces we want to make will be on the outside and some will only need to be at the bottom for the handle to sit. This is what we will do for both of the boards. You will see that we will cut 2 pieces of wood for a middle row of 1-3″ square. These will serve as support for the lower and upper row.
Assemble the middle row of wood pieces at the top left and bottom right.
Now we go over the bottom row. We are going to make the 2 front pieces. This will keep the boards from sliding.
Next we are going to use a few clamps to hang the boards to the middle.
We now need two pieces of wood for the bottom row of wood. We drilled 1/4″ holes for the boards to go into. We have the outside 1/2″ and the middle 1/2
