I mean, I don’t want to be rich, and I love what I do, but I’m sure the money’s out there.
How do you decide what to make?
I try not to be swayed by money. I just try to keep making furniture that fits into our personal space. It’s not a lot of money, but it feels good, and then I go back to making the same thing. Not for money, but for me.
Do you really think that the furniture has changed since you started this business?
Well, it’s easier to go over to my friend Chris’s house in New Jersey and work on his wall. It’s less of an experiment and more like taking a step forward.
Do you have any advice for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?
It’s hard to tell what the right path is. I think I’ve tried so many different things and just haven’t found one that suits me. That’s why I’m still here.
Do you have any regrets in your life?
Not making the music I want. I’ve always wanted to make music for myself, but being a teenager, you can’t get out of going to college. You need a lot of money and school to support that. I want to do music forever.
Have you started to consider becoming a musician?
Definitely a way to pass my time is to just take my guitar and just have a good time on the road. I feel so close I’d love for people to know me as a songwriter and not just a musician. At the end of the day, that makes a better audience, so if anyone could say that to me, it’d be me.
