What is a forced rhyme? – Leap 2 Learn Rapid City Sd News Channel

Here’s the definition of forced rhyming:

Freed from the necessity of rhyming, a writer is free to express himself (with “the full voice”) in a more natural sequence than would be possible if his work were dictated.

Freed from the necessity of rhyming, a writer is free to express himself (with “the full voice”) in a more natural sequence than would be possible if his work were dictated.

You see, for those who were raised in a culture that prided itself on rhyming, forced rhyming is one of the worst things ever to happen to a writer. You see, the point of forced rhyming in modern poetry is to allow the writer to express himself without having to think about it. The forced rhyme is where the writer has to stop and think how a sentence might be written if a certain cadence or cadence patterns were to repeat.

So what I want to discuss today is something that many writers, particularly those who use forced rhyming, would vehemently disagree with.

Forced rhyming: the “nanny dog” of poetry

Let’s be honest, we were probably indoctrinated to avoid forced rhyming as much as possible. We learn, of course, that forced rhyming is an egregious form of censorship that threatens the freedom of expression in art. In the past, I have noted that forced rhyming has some unfortunate effects on the quality of poetry. For instance, I was unable to write my own rhymes using the “h” sound unless I used the forced rhyme.

Some of us have grown up listening to the sound of the “h” in written poetry being pronounced for many years. In fact, I have a long experience using the forced rhyme as I was a member of one of the many radio stations in the New Jersey/New York area that used the forced rhyme as a source of poetry. I even sang (as the narrator of the story above) “Faded Hair, Faded Eyes” for a program in which I sang a lot of “h” sounds. As a former member of this radio station and as a longtime poet, I also sang many of the forced rhyme’s rhymed words as well.

I am no expert in this matter, and it has not been researched. But here are the basics behind these two things:
