I don’t think Eminem knows that. But I’ve always thought that what he’s doing [is] his way of expressing, you know, the struggles of black Americans, just in general. I think it’s something that he feels very strongly about. That’s my understanding, at least.
What do you make of Eminem’s decision to go full Jay Z on his second joint album? Did you have a say in that?
I don’t think Eminem thought about that. I think it was just a normal occurrence that a project of this nature was coming out. Sometimes these things happen, and sometimes they don’t. It wasn’t like, “Oh, I’ll say something like that,” you know? But it wasn’t something that was going to be on my mind. Eminem’s very good at making stuff. He is very good at making it sound good, so he was prepared. He knew he didn’t have to say anything. He just did it.
Did Jay Z do a lot to promote the album or promote it himself, like signing autographs at shows, or are they both the artists in their own ways?
Well, it seems like Eminem is getting a little bit more attention this year. I think the amount of people that have seen his songs are increasing, especially on Twitter. [The first single, “Encore”], he put a full-on video up as a teaser for it, so he obviously is in a positive way. And then he’s got a new album coming out.
What have you got in store for me? Are you gonna play me one of your songs on the radio?
No. I can’t talk about it for the media.
When I saw you playing that song, I was like, “Damn, that’s a good one. You can rap.”
I think so. The lyrics sound good.
I think so. I’m not gonna be the one to say, but you really got the feel for it right away.
What do you think of the new album from Big Sean?
[We spoke a long time ago.] I don’t know what it is about Big Sean. I mean, some of the stuff he’s done, I mean, he’s very good at what he does.
