Hans Weigert, Austrian-born businessman and art collector, came up with the idea while working on his own designs for the women’s harem. He then contacted a local designer, who used Weigert’s measurements for his designs with a twist. The dress, made out of 1848-1925 vintage dress fabrics, was modeled after the “Pomfret” dress, which was used in the 1920s to dress the female members and servants of the imperial family.
Who made the flapper dress?
Weigert made a small-scale, private collection of the women’s harem dresses in the 1930s, and used these to recreate the costume designs on his own. When he died at the age of 92 in 1954, he had several thousand works of art on display.
Did we have any idea of its significance when we created it?
The flapper dress was considered the ultimate flapper costume at the time: a bold and bold color scheme that could be worn with anything. The skirt was a red fabric that was considered glamorous, the whole ensemble was made out of 1848-1925 vintage dress fabrics, and was modeled after the “Pomfret” dress.
The U.S. is the dominant buyer of oil from Canada in the world market, but the country is less willing than other parts of the world to take on carbon emissions, according to a report released Wednesday.
The report released by The Climate Trust, an international research organization, says global oil imports — including Canada’s oil exports to the U.S. and Mexico — are dropping from their 2007 peak of $65.6 billion annually. But the report notes that as more oil is refined in the United States and other countries, the industry is still the biggest exporter of carbon-dioxide emissions.
“The drop off in imports may not be sustainable without major changes to policy and trade regimes,” said Adam Sieminski, director of The Climate Trust’s global oil and gas program, in an interview. “This report shows that we’ve got to turn things around and make sure that this change is not only sustainable in the medium term but is also in the interests of the environment.”
The report comes as Canada is set to unveil details at climate talks in Paris of a comprehensive climate-change policy package that promises to cut greenhouse gas emissions from the oil sector by 28% from 2005 levels by 2030.
