In fact, the flapper movement was often a struggle for a greater equality between its members. Because of their low social status, the women who found themselves among the flappers often found it difficult to form a club. At first, they had to depend on each other to take care of business. It seemed as if everyone they met, from their boss all the way down to the floor janitor, was on a different level from them. However, with time, each group began sharing in the struggles for justice. The women’s liberation movement of the ’60’s gave everyone the opportunity to express themselves publicly. Flappers gave many of them the opportunity to be heard through their music and dance at large gatherings. With everyone, no matter their social status, together, flappers created the first group of women that came forward and publicly advocated for their rights.
