We talked to people who had been there (and we have video from all the interviews as well), we looked at photographs of all of these things, we did visualisation of the house in our mind’s eye in order to come up with the final design.


Q. Were you trying to make the home seem as alien to the people you were studying?

A. No, I had the idea that that is what I wanted it to be.

Q. Why did you go to such great lengths to hide your research so you could show “the real thing”?

A. I didn’t want people to discover it, I wanted to keep it a secret.
