The music and composition of Bach, the most prominent German composer of his day, is widely considered the preeminent work in Western classical music.[1] The C minor is usually regarded as an introduction to the major scale, but this classification has been challenged by historians.[2][3]
The C major scale was first described in 1492 when it was discovered by two Italian scholars, Giovanni Battista Fagioli and Lorenzo del Verrocchio, and a description was issued by the Italian government in 1497. Its name is commonly used today to describe the “C” major scale. The most extensive and popular theory of its use was given by Paul Erdos, a professor of music at the California Institute of Technology. He believed that C major and G# minor were complementary. The scale itself was composed of a few dozen pitches; the note numbers are C-D-E-F-G- A- B- C- D- E- F- G- B- C. C major has an octave consisting of two thirds, an eighth, and a fifth, but the major scale is never made up of only two thirds. There are two major modes: the major mode is defined by the major and minor modes (that is, they are the same note) as well as a pentatonic scale, which consists of an eighth, 5th, and 4th, and a minor pentatonic scale, which consists of a 5th, 4th, and 3rd. C major and the minor pentatonic scale are therefore called C major and C minor in Europe.
C major has many variants, each with a slight tonality difference. The three most common variants of C major are the “C major”, C major with A, C major with D, and the C minor with E. C major is frequently used as the starting point for other scale configurations, and the scales Bb, Eb, F and G major are often also used to mark its place in the major scale.[citation needed]
It was originally considered that the notes C and D were the same note. In reality, however, they have a different quality. In C major, D has been subdivided into C or E and E or F.
