I’m still a teenager as far as singing. I don’t know that it does, but if I get older I might try some changes. When I was younger, I was singing really badly. I’d have to learn a lot of different singing styles, but I don’t know which ones I’d play in the future. I’m still a young singer and hopefully I’ll just keep learning and trying new things.
Do you think being a pop star, or being in front of a big crowd, is as big as acting?
You don’t have to be the biggest thing in the world. You can be in front of a few thousand people and the fans are going to love you. But you need to have a good song in the song, so if you really want the fans to like you, you need to have a good song.
Do you find it hard working with singers?
Yes, I do. I have to be the kind of guy that’s just as hard as all of them are. I’ve never been one to make it easy for a guest singer. But if you come to my music room, you know that if anything is in the wrong place, I can fix it quickly.
If I say something wrong, they’ll fix it for me real quickly and be like, “Hey, that sucks!” I’m there for the fans, man.
When you sing for a group, do you sing with any vocalists apart from the group?
No, not really. I’ll do all of the singing for my own group, and I’ll do one chorus with each member during a song. I can just be there and listen to what they’re singing. I really try to be open and listen to whatever they may be able to do.
Some singers like to try a new vocal style on a regular basis. Why do you think some singers are good at being open and listening to others for guidance?
You have to be open and listen really well. I try to just see what they’re doing and try to mimic what he’s doing. It can happen and be good or bad, depending on how they’re doing. Because it’s one way of getting feedback.
