Charlotte Perkins Easton (1901-1987), a flapper, was the most famous in the United States in the 1920s. In the 1920s, she became particularly known for her ability to wear the same outfits over and over again. According to her co-author, William S. Mott, who also wrote the book, There Were No Flappers: The Story of the Flapper Style, “The flapper was famous because she made herself available.”
“Flappers were the most photographed girls of the 1920s, partly because of their high frequency of appearing in the same style,” the essay reads.
“For example, you were more likely to see a flapper in the same suit as before than before.” And that didn’t happen all the time. In the 1920s, Easton was also able to do something she was already good at. In Mott’s book, she writes, “She was so good that, by 1924, an advertisement had been placed in the local weekly newspaper for a ‘trendy brunette.’ ”
Easton also appeared quite a deal in the press. In the November 28, 1924 edition of The Seattle Times, she was described as a “popular flapper” and by her peers as “a true flapper.” The caption said she was “pretty good looking” and described her “perfect figure in the same style as the flapper is wont to wear and she looks like herself.”
